To visit the famous Inca citadel, it is necessary to purchase Machu Picchu tickets. Remember that Machu Picchu tickets sell out quickly, especially during peak travel seasons, so buying your tickets as soon as possible ensures a place inside. The ways to obtain tickets for Machu Picchu are:

  • Directly on the official website (tuboleto.cultura.pe). It also has a video guide. You must choose the schedule and circuit before purchasing the ticket.

Explanatory Note 2024

There are 10 tickets depending on the route of the 3 circuits you want to enter, this was implemented in June 2024.

Select the number of tickets according to rate, take this into account when purchasing your ticket:

  • The maximum is 5 visitors per reservation.
  • Valid ID must be presented at the entrance.
  • Children under 3 years old have free admission.

There are 3 circuits available for visitors to Machu Picchu to explore this ancient fortress. The purpose of these circuits is to provide visitors with a distinctive and in-depth knowledge of key sections of the archaeological site. The Panoramic Circuit, Circuit 1.

This circuit is intended for people who wish to contemplate the impressive views of the citadel from several viewpoints. Perfect for short excursions and panoramic photography, it is the ideal option for those seeking a visual experience.

It includes the routes:

Route 1-A: Machupicchu Mountain Route.

The ascent to Machupicchu mountain is possible through this route. From the top you can see the snow-capped mountains Salkantay and Pumasillo, as well as the entire cultural landscape surrounding the Inca city. The round trip is approximately 3.8 km long. It requires a great physical effort.

Route 1-B: Upper Terrace Route

The viewpoint and the panoramic view of Machupicchu are the main attractions of this route. In addition, you will be able to contemplate the geological formation known as “Batolito de Vilcabamba” and the winding course of the Vilcanota River. Ideal for panoramic photos and a classic photograph of the city. The round trip is approximately 1.6 km long. A moderate physical effort is necessary.

Route 1-C: Intipunku Gateway Route (available only in high season from June 1 to October 15)

It heads towards the Portada Intipunku, which is the entrance to the city along the Inka Trail. From this point, you will be able to appreciate this crucial route. In addition, you will be able to see the Inca city from a different perspective. The round trip is approximately 3.4 km long. Moderate physical effort is required. This route is available in high season.

Route 1-D: Inka Bridge Trail (available only in high season from June 1 to October 15).

This trail leads to the Inka Bridge, built of stone and wood. From this place you can admire the beautiful view of the Vilcanota valley. The round trip is approximately 2.6 km long. Moderate physical effort is required. This route is available in high season.

Inka Citadel Circuit, Circuit 2

This circuit, which passes through important sites of cultural and architectural interest, allows a more complete visit to the interior of the citadel. For those who wish to examine the main structures in depth, this tour is the most complete.

It includes the following routes:

Route 2-A: Designed route

This route allows you to appreciate and visit the main sectors of the urban area of the city. From there, you will be able to enjoy all of Machupicchu. Continue to the area of Llaqta Punku, also known as the main entrance, where you will find the Mirador of the Temple of the Sun, the main square, the Sacred Rock and the Water Mirrors. The round trip is approximately 2.5 km long. A medium-high level of physical activity is required. Ideal for taking a traditional photograph of Machupicchu.

Route 2-B: Low Terrace Route

The hike begins in the agricultural zone and you must ascend until you reach the lower terrace. At this point it is possible to enjoy Machupicchu and get the desired photograph of the city. Continue to the area of Llaqta Punku or Main Entrance, where the stone quarries used for the construction of the buildings, the Main Plaza, the Sacred Rock and the Water Mirrors are located. The round trip is approximately 2.7 km long. A medium-high level of physical activity is required.

The Royalty Circuit, Circuit 3

Offers a more exclusive and complete experience in sections, it focuses on areas of Inca royalty, with ceremonial sites and the best architecture.

It includes the routes:

Route 3-A: Waynapicchu Mountain Route.

The trip begins in the agricultural zone. Classic photographs can be taken very close to the urban area. It allows you to visit the Temple of the Sun, the House of the Inka, the Ceremonial Fountains and the Tres Portadas sector. The trail continues to the Waynapicchu mountain, from where you can appreciate impressive views of the city from the top. On the way back, you can visit the Temple of the Condor. The round trip is approximately 2.4 km long. It requires a great physical effort.

Route 3-B: Designed route

The hike begins in the agricultural zone, from where you can observe the view of the Andes. It allows you to take a classic photo of the city. It continues with the Temple of the Sun, the House of the Inka, the Ceremonial Fountains, the Tres Portadas sector and the Temple of the Condor. The round trip is approximately 1.3 km long. A medium level of effort is required. A segment of the circuit allows visits by people in wheelchairs or those who require assistance to move around the site.

Route 3-C: Gran Caverna Route (available only in high season from June 1 to October 15).

The hike begins in the agricultural zone, from where the imposing Andes Mountain Range can be seen. It allows you to get a classic photograph of the urban area. It continues through the Temple of the Sun, the House of the Inka, the Ceremonial Fountains and the sector of the Three Gates. From here, the trip leads to the Great Cavern. On the way back, it is possible to visit the Temple of the Condor. The round trip is approximately 3 km long. It requires a lot of physical effort. This route is available in high season.

3-D Route: Huchuypicchu Route (available only in high season from June 1st to October 15th)

The tour begins in the agricultural area, where you can observe the terraces and get a traditional photograph very close to the urban area. It continues with the Temple of the Sun, the House of the Inka, the Ceremonial Fountains and the area of Tres Portadas. From here, the trail leads to the entrance and to the top of the Huchuypicchu mountain, where you will be able to contemplate panoramic views of the Inka city and the landscape. On the way back, you will discover the Temple of the Condor. The round trip is approximately 1.7 km long. A moderate physical effort is required.

Recommendations to take into account

  • Include advance purchase: To ensure your access, it is recommended to purchase your ticket 2 to 4 months in advance, especially in high season.
  • Early arrival: Plan to arrive before the entrance time. If your entrance is from 9:00 to 10:00, you will have 45 minutes more to enter. After that time, you will not be allowed to enter, except for reasons of force majeure that must be justified.
  • Dates and times: As you are not allowed to return to the area once you have left, please make sure that the dates and times of entry are correct on your reservation.
  • Change and Refund Policy: Please note that tickets are non-exchangeable and non-refundable. Please verify all details before purchasing.
  • Limitations per circuit: Some tickets will only allow you access to specific areas of Machu Picchu. Before visiting, check which sites are covered by your ticket.
  • If you did not manage to get tickets on the web, the Ministry of Culture has enabled the sale of 1000 tickets per day* to visit Machu Picchu the following day. To obtain them, you must go to the Mincul Cultural Center of Machu Picchu Pueblo, also known as “Aguas Calientes”, from 15:00 to 22:00 hrs. Remember that it will be considered lost if it is not used at the time indicated on the ticket.

Information about the circuits

  • High season

From June 1 to October 15 and from December 30 to 31.

The maximum number of visitors per day is 5600.

Distribution of visitors according to the circuit:

Circuit 1: 1,100 visitors.

Circuit 2: 3,050 visitors.

Circuit 3: 1,450 people.

  • Low season

From October 16 to December 29 and from January 1 to May 31.

Maximum daily capacity is 4,500 visitors.

  • New circuits:

Since June 1, three new circuits have been established that include 10 routes, in order to vary the visits and facilitate the conservation of the site.

You will be able to take the classic photo with any circuit you choose.

No, they are not sold separately, you will have to buy the specific ticket.

There are no changes in the dates of the tickets to Amachu Picchu, it is better to plan ahead.

Are there discounts for students?

Yes, there are discounts for students and also for minors. Maximum 5 visitors per reservation. Children under 3 years old do not pay, upon presentation of a document, passport or ID that proves age.

How long does the visit to Machu Picchu last?

Approximately the time of each tour is 3 hours. It depends on each ticket and the tour that was programmed.
